IPTV EPG Wrong Time — How to Fix
If your IPTV TV guide (EPG) shows programme times that are one, two or more hours off, you are experiencing an EPG time offset issue. This is a common and easily fixable problem. This guide walks through the diagnosis and solution step by step.
Step 1: Understand Why EPG Times Can Be Wrong
EPG data is usually generated in a specific timezone — often UTC or a fixed server timezone. If your IPTV player app does not apply a timezone offset to match your local time, the guide will appear shifted by the difference. In Norway (UTC+1 in winter, UTC+2 in summer), this often means the EPG shows times one or two hours behind actual programming.
Step 2: Check Your App’s EPG Time Offset Setting
Most IPTV player apps include an EPG time offset or timezone adjustment setting. Open your app’s settings menu and look for options labelled "EPG Offset", "Time Zone", "EPG Time Correction" or similar. The exact location varies by app:
- IBO Player / IBO Player Pro: Settings → General → EPG Time Offset
- Hot Player: Settings → EPG Settings → Time Shift
- TiviMate: Settings → EPG → EPG offset (hours)
- VU Player Pro: Settings → Guide Settings → Time Offset
Step 3: Set the Correct Offset Value
If the EPG shows times that are earlier than real life, set a positive offset. If times appear later than real life, set a negative offset. For Norway (CET/CEST), try +1 in winter or +2 in summer. Adjust in increments of 1 hour until the guide matches live programming.
Step 4: Refresh Your EPG Data
After changing the offset, force a full EPG refresh. In most apps, this is done via Settings → EPG → Update EPG or Force Refresh. The guide will reload from the source with the new offset applied. This can take 1–3 minutes depending on the size of your playlist.
Step 5: Verify the Fix With a Known Programme
Check the EPG against a programme you know the real broadcast time of — a regular news bulletin or a sports event with a published start time. If the times now match, the offset is correct. If they are still off, adjust by another hour and repeat.
Step 6: Check Your Device System Clock
A less common but possible cause of EPG time errors is an incorrect system clock on the streaming device itself. Ensure your Smart TV, Android box, PC or phone has the correct time and timezone set in its system settings. Enable automatic time synchronisation (NTP) if the option is available.
Step 7: Contact Support if the Problem Persists
If you have tried all the above steps and the EPG is still showing incorrect times, the issue may be with the EPG data source. Contact us via WhatsApp and we will help diagnose the issue directly.
